Intercity buses in the Netherlands: FlixBus and Dutch express lines, live and on time?

By Bustempo · Published 11 October 2026 · Updated 14 October 2026 · figures refresh automatically from the archive

The Netherlands is a transit country for coaches: most FlixBus rides through Amsterdam Sloterdijk, Utrecht or Eindhoven are on their way between Germany, Belgium, France and the UK, and a delay picked up on the A2 or at the Belgian border travels with the bus all the way to Paris or London.

Domestic intercity-style bus lines (the Qbuzz and Arriva express lines, the Brabantliner, Flevoland's R-net lines) publish real-time data through the national OVapi feed, which we also read; they are shorter and much more punctual than the international coaches.

Netherlands in numbers (10 October 2026 to 14 October 2026): 113 lines departing from 40 cities, 373 measured rides, 62.5% on time, median delay 3.4 min, P90 21.2 min, 1.5% cancelled. Operators seen: FlixBus, Qbuzz, Connexxion, Flibco, U-OV, allGo. Full detail on the Netherlands country page.

When to travel

Departures around 13:00 had the best on-time record in Netherlands (77%); around 10:00 the worst (20%). Amsterdam-bound coaches from Germany arrive late more often than they leave late; if you are catching a flight at Schiphol from a coach arriving at Sloterdijk, budget the route's P90 delay plus 30 minutes for the train.

Passenger rights

Regulation (EU) 181/2011 applies: on services of 250 km or more, a cancellation or a departure delay over 120 minutes gives you the choice between a refund and re-routing, plus 50% of the fare if that choice is not offered. Details, thresholds and a complaint template are in the compensation guide.

Frequently asked questions

Waar is mijn FlixBus?

Open de live kaart (/live) en zoek op lijnnummer of vertrekstad; elk voertuig dat positie meldt wordt met vertraging getoond. Nederlandse statistiekpagina's staan onder /nl/reliability.

Which Amsterdam station does FlixBus use?

Amsterdam Sloterdijk (bus platforms next to the railway station) for nearly all lines; a few use Amsterdam Zuid or Duivendrecht.

Are the Dutch express bus lines covered by EU 181/2011?

The refund and 50% rules apply only to services of 250 km or more, so most domestic lines fall under the information and assistance rights only; international FlixBus services are fully covered.
